Classes and Programs

Vocal Arts Workshop & Master Class

Choral singers, soloists and aspiring vocalists of every stripe are invited to work with master teachers and performers, Paul Adkins, Dianne Legro, John Cimino and Jon Klibonoff on any aspect of the singer's craft and technique.  Choral groups may be coached in prepared repertoire. Individuals are encouraged to bring their own music for work in master class format.  Friendly, supportive guidance provided.  Open discussion of vocal development, performance presentation skills, artistic insights and a life enriched by music.


Informances

"Informances" are informal, informative performances, the perfect setting for getting to know your artists-in-residence on a personal level.  A time for friendly conversation and great performances at arms-length.  Learn about one another's worlds, discover one another's perspectives, passions and aspirations.  Find out what you have in common and share good will in the presence of music.


Workshop for Actors

Meet actress and singer, Dianne Legro, and explore the actor's craft in a supportive, friendly environment via exercises and improvs for aimed at relaxation, creative focus, spontaneity, expression and sustaining living moments.  Anyone with prepared monologues or duos with scenes will be coached and warmly encouraged.  Beginners welcome.


Top Form:
Habits of Excellence in Sports, Music and Life

Meet flutist and athlete, Donna Wissinger, and explore the concept of "Top Form" across the disciplines.  Learn how top athletes and musicians train for excellence.   Identify transferable habits of excellence that you can take from one endeavor to the next.   Take a close look at your own natural talents, discover your own ideal performance state and learn to nurture it.


Of Color & Courage:
The Musical Legacy of Roland Hayes

"Life is about hope," says tenor Paul Spencer Adkins, performer and star of the PBS documentary special chronicling the life of Roland Hayes.  Hayes was the first African-American artist to gain international recognition as a classical concert singer, and Adkins, a rising operatic star of his own generation, tells the story of Hayes, his dreams, his courage and the power of his music.


Inner Balance:
Stress Management & Peak Performance

Work with singer-actress and bioenergetics coach, Dianne Legro, and explore the mind-body connection in a friendly, practical setting.  Review basic relaxation techniques.  Improve your focus, awareness and readiness.  Identify your learned stress reactions and begin to set yourself free of them.  Clarify your own mind-body conditions for peak performance and learn to tap that knowledge .


Knowing Your Own Mind:
Perception, Creativity & Thinking Styles

Work with singer-scientist and creativity coach, John Cimino, and explore the tricky interrelation between how we perceive, how we think and how we create meaning.  Starting with an entertaining look at visual perception and illusion and various preferred thinking styles, participants will be invited to frame theories of perception related to learning, creativity, leadership and change.


Master Class in Piano:
For Classical & Improvisatory Performance

Work with award-winning pianist and teacher, Jon Klibonoff, to improve your keyboard technique and interpretive skills.  Classically trained students should bring scores of the pieces they are working on.  Improvisatory players are also welcome to share their music.  Thoughtful critique and encouragement provided.  Auditors welcome.


Cabaret Master Class with Dianne Legro

Singer-actress and cabaret artist, Dianne Legro, will work with students who are preparing their own cabaret performances.  Stagecraft as well as vocal and interpretive guidance will be available as requested by any student.  Dianne will also offer overview of the performing challenges unique to the art of cabaret performance.


Chopin, Einstein & "The Most Beautiful Thing"

Pianist Jon Klibonoff and singer-scientist, John Cimino (RPI '71), offer affectionate portraits of Chopin and Einstein via interlaced performances of the famous music for piano and readings from the celebrated scientific and philosophic writings.   Students are invited to bring in their favorite Einstein quotes for creative pairing with music from Chopin's 24 Preludes for the Piano.   Fun with ideas in celebration of "the most beautiful thing!"
