Throughout my posts, you'll often hear of me training at a place called "the Pit". Simply put The Pit is my gym, I set up in the garage of my house. I do not know how I came up with the name, but he stayed. I think the naming It was my way of feeling like I'm a member of a gym. I now have my friends and calling Mrs Niko Pit.
Why set up a home gym?
Throughout my life I have served on various commercial gyms in various locations in Queensland, Australia. The last time I was a member of a commercial gym was around June 2007. I remember that time because she was at the time of my first son was born and it was just before my 30th birthday.
Meanwhile, my gym membership expired and I decided not to renew it as I have never been to enter the gym due to time be rather poor. I decided, instead of spending money on renewing my membership to the gym, to get an entire home gym for my 30th birthday, my theory is that I could save on time moving and therefore spend more time with my family.
The decision to purchase the entire home gym turned out to be one of the best decisions I made regarding my physical condition.
Best Home Gym Equipment
I've always been a proponent of Does The Flex Belt Work weight training, so I decided to buy an adjustable bench with an attachment down, a stack of free weights, a bar and a set of dumbbells adjustable.
Not being too flushed for money that we had just had our first child, I decided to mark the new bench, and the source of the rest of second hand equipment. After saving money I decided to buy standard weights and a bar, not the Olympic weight and a bar. This decision is a purely cost-based.
When it came to selecting the barbell and my selection criteria was to purchase equipment that was relatively free of rust with spin lock collars. While securing collars are turning more time to put on and remove the bar and dumbbells, I would like the security it offers, since most of the time I would be the only training.
My selection criteria were weight, I need the plates come in pairs. I mean, if I were to buy a 10 kg plate I wanted this pairing is equivalent. My reasoning is that there may be slight differences in the manufacturing process, from one plant to another. So to make sure I loaded the two sides of a bar or dumbbells up was the same weight I wanted the pair of plates.
The weight is the weight. It does not matter if she is pretty!
Other than wanting the plates to come in pairs I had no other specific criteria, except that I wanted them to be virtually free of rust. My thought was the weight is the weight, I do not care if she looked pretty that I wanted projection weights, and lots of it.
With my budget and since the brand new weight standard in retail stores for about $ 3 (Australian dollars) per kilogram, I would not have been able to establish much of a room gym with weights of all new.
Instead I searched on eBay and my local newspapers for people selling weight. You'd be surprised how many people are selling cheap weight. Most people just want to get the weights of their homes because they take up space.
Another source of the equipment was buddies, who just wanted to get rid of weight that sat in their homes or in their shelters by taking the square. I had two friends who said I could have their equipment as it was simply taking all the space they did not and they had no intention nor the space to install a gym at home.
Think about it logically, there must be billions of pounds of weight sitting in the house of peoples. Companies to keep making it, retailers continue to sell, but it is a truly unique product, unless the difference in the elements, will last longer than most people who buy it.
